She usually gets them ready the night before for best results, but has also done them with about a 5-minute marinade time and they still tasted great.

And, this is what makes this recipe so quick. Especially, if you use new potatoes, you don't even need to peel them. I usually use about1 to 1 1/2 potatoes per person. Serve these hot out of the oven. Theyare crispy and delicious!

German Recipe?

This recipe for oven roasted potatoes comes from my German friend, Heidi. You'll find her recipes sprinkled throughout this website. She's an amazing cook as well as an amazing friend.

For this recipe, she has a "cutter", almost like a "french fry cutter". Her potatoes are therefore smaller and the roasting time quicker. I just cut mine in nice sized chunks.

FAQs

How does Gordon Ramsay make the best roast potatoes? ›

In a video online, Gordon explained: “For crispy roast potatoes, you can depend on them, my tip is to parboil them, leave them to steam dry, then sprinkle them with semolina or flour, and then give them a good roughing up.”

Do I have to boil potatoes before roasting them? ›

It isn't necessary to boil potatoes before roasting but you can. Your oven generates plenty of heat, enough to completely cook diced potato pieces in a reasonable amount of time. They'll be tender in the middle and have some crispness on the outside, mostly on the side in contact with the pan they were cooked on.

How long can you marinate potatoes? ›

Hard Vegetables (Potatoes, Carrots, Beets, etc.): Marinate these veggies for at least 30 minutes and up to overnight. Semi-Hard Vegetables (Green Beans, Asparagus, Peppers, etc.): Marinate for at least 30 minutes and up to several hours. Soft Vegetables (Broccoli, Tomatoes, Greens, etc.): About 10 minutes is good.

What happens if you don't soak potatoes before roasting? ›

Directions
  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. Toss the potatoes with the canola oil, garlic paste and salt and pepper to taste. Place on a sheet tray and roast until cooked through and golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes.
  3. Remove from the oven and immediately fold in the herbs.

What oil is best for cooking roast potatoes? ›

Neutral, low-cost oil such as vegetable oil, canola oil, safflower oil, peanut oil, corn oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, etc., work well for roasting. These oils have a high smoke point, allowing the potatoes to get very hot to achieve maximum crispiness.

Why put flour on roast potatoes? ›

Roast for 1hr until golden and crisp, and don't forget to turn them occasionally to ensure they cook evenly. Here's a few tricks to try to make them even more delicious. Sprinkle your parboiled potatoes with flour. This gives potatoes extra crunch.

Which type of potatoes are best for roasting? ›

A delicious blend of potatoes, garlic, lemon, and herbs marinated overnight in olive oil and white wine. This is a nice way to dress up the potatoes and is always a hit at my dinner parties.

Does marinating potatoes make a difference? ›

This can help to create a more even flavor throughout the potatoes.

How do you prepare roast potatoes in advance Jamie Oliver? ›
